What is full spectrum infrared?
Meta Physica is the only place in Detroit proper with private full-spectrum infrared saunas. But what is infrared, and what do the different type of infrared rays do while they warm our bodies?
Unlike traditional saunas that heat the air around you, infrared saunas use the heat of light to directly warm your body. This means you can enjoy a deeper sweat at a lower temperature (~165 vs ~202) making it a more comfortable experience.
What Does "Full Spectrum" Mean?
Full spectrum refers to the range of infrared light used in the sauna. There are three types of infrared wavelengths: near, mid, and far. Each type penetrates the body at different depths and offers unique health benefits.
Near-Infrared (NIR):
Penetrates the skin's surface.
Promotes wound healing and cell repair.
Enhances skin rejuvenation and overall skin health.
Mid-Infrared (MIR):
Penetrates deeper into the body's soft tissue.
Helps with pain relief and reduces inflammation.
Improves circulation and can aid in detoxification.
Far-Infrared (FIR):
Reaches the deepest into the body, affecting muscles, joints, and even bones.
Promotes detoxification by stimulating sweat at the cellular level.
Supports relaxation and stress reduction
When you combine all three wavelengths in one sauna session, you get a comprehensive wellness experience. This "symphony of therapeutic energy" can offer a wide range of benefits, including:
Enhanced detoxification
Improved circulation
Pain relief and muscle relaxation
Skin rejuvenation and anti-aging effects
Support for tissue recovery
Reduced stress and improved overall well-being
Getting Deeper With The Wavelengths
Near-Infrared (NIR) light penetrates the skin's surface, promoting wound healing and cell repair. It stimulates fibroblast activity, which creates new proteins for collagen and elastin, crucial for maintaining firm, smooth, and wrinkle-free skin. NIR therapy is known for its anti-aging effects, as it enhances cellular repair and rejuvenates the skin without the need for invasive procedures. Additionally, NIR promotes overall skin health and can help with conditions like acne and hyperpigmentation. It also supports deeper cellular repair, which can be beneficial for overall well-being.
Mid-Infrared (MIR) light penetrates deeper into the body's soft tissue, helping with pain relief and reducing inflammation. It improves circulation and can aid in detoxification by enhancing blood flow and metabolic processes. This increased circulation helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to the skin, promoting a healthier and more vibrant complexion. MIR is particularly effective in expanding blood vessels and increasing circulation, which can help reduce pain and inflammation in injured or inflamed areas of the body.
Far-Infrared (FIR) light reaches the deepest into the body, affecting muscles, joints, and even bones. It promotes detoxification by stimulating sweat at the cellular level, which helps eliminate toxins and impurities from the skin. This process can lead to a clearer and more radiant complexion. Additionally, FIR can stimulate hair growth and improve overall scalp health. FIR supports relaxation and stress reduction by deeply heating the body, which can help alleviate muscle tension and promote a sense of well-being.
